All kinds of evolved life forms wash up on the beaches of Key West, just waiting for a chance to wreak havoc on the general population. Take Douglas Barnes, president of Barnes Waste Management, who gets his jollies by sending some amazing things into the outer atmosphere; or Dougie Barnes, who has a predilection for poetry, parrots and perversion. Into this haven for the insane waltzes Trula Montoya, a former TV actress with a secret, and Shaw Chandler, a disenchanted EMS worker on the scent of murder.

Returning to Key West to help his mother and come to terms with his father's untimely death, Shaw Chandler, a disenchanted Miami EMT worker, finds himself involved in a murder investigation. Although Hall's plot is complex and some listeners may wish to replay sections, the story reads aloud well. Throughout his reading, Ferrone maintains the warm, relaxed pace of a leisurely stroll on a sandy beach. Although the story is filled with quirky, bizarre characters, only subtle vocal changes are required to differentiate among speakers. Like South Florida, this mystery will attract a great number of visitors, and few will leave disappointed! J.L. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
