Waiting for Summer's Return

Barbara Caruso is a narrator par excellence. She draws the listener right into the story with a strong performance. She expertly delivers the German words and phrases that occasionally become part of the story, as well as the pronounced German accents of many of the characters. The year is 1894. In Kansas, Summer Steadman is reeling from the sudden deaths of her husband and children from typhoid fever. Desperate, lonely, and feeling forsaken by God, she accepts a position to teach the young son of Peter Ollenburger, a Mennonite who lost his wife several years before.
